We stayed at one of the
K Hotels a few years back and were not impressed. Earlier this year, they offered discounts for
a new branch, K Hotels Tianjin, so we decided to give it one more try. We booked a room on its website and received
a confirmation email. Then we asked a
question through email but did not get any response. We left a message on their website and still
got no reply. Unfortunately, there was a
change of schedule and we had to cancel one night’s booking. I ended up calling them, and a clerk said on
the phone that I had to cancel all nights because that’s how the system was set
up. In other words, if we still wanted
to stay at their hotel, we had to rebook the other nights. But the rate had gone up like NT$600 higher
per night. I asked to speak to his
supervisor, and after a couple of phone calls and conversations the problem was
finally resolved.
K Hotels Tianjin was newly opened this year with brand new facilities. It is conveniently located between two MRT stations — Taipei Main Station & Shandao Temple. At check-in, we were told that our room was upgraded to Executive Room. The room had windows on two sides. The curtains were thick enough to block out the light. Our only complaint about the room was that the counter space in the bathroom was quite small. The hotel would have the monthly “disinfection” routine the following day, so we had to pack up everything before we went out. We travel quite often but this was the first time we had stayed at a hotel with a “disinfection” routine.

We came back to K
Hotels Tianjin after visiting another city.
This time we were upgraded to the best room type, K suite. The room came with a two-seater sofa, and a
much bigger desk and TV. The bathroom
was similar to the Executive Room’s, except that the bathtub was quite deep. Shorter people may find it difficult to get
in and out. What we liked most about the
hotel was the great soundproof walls. We
never heard a sound from outside the room.

Our stay came with a
breakfast buffet. There were Chinese and
Western foods, and different fruits.
Computers and laundry facilities were provided free of charge. During our stay, most of the hotel guests
were from Mainland China, Hong Kong, and other Asian and Western
countries. My experience at K Hotels
Tianjin once again proves that the frontline staff is crucial. The male clerk on the phone might have
limited authority to override the system, but he did not seem to have tried his
best. In comparison, a lady at the front
desk always addressed me by name, which made me feel welcome.
