Shin Shih is very close to the Shuanglian MRT Station, only a short walk after the exit. And there’s a market nearby, so you can pick up some fruits along the way. Walking along the Min Sheng West Road will take you to Sec. 2 of Zhong Shan North Road, a nice shopping area.
The layout of Shin Shih was kind of strange. When we entered from the Min Sheng W. Road door, we saw a restaurant and a computer desk. We did not see the elevator and the front desk until walking further. Usually the front desk should be in the front (that’s why it got the name), but the designer obviously had different logic here. There was another entrance/exit at the back where the front desk was located. But the entrance was in a back alley and was not easy to find.
The front desk staff offered reasonable service but with not much passion. They just treated the guests as routine business. On the contrary, a gentleman often in the lobby (a security guard maybe?) was eager to help. Whenever a guest seemed a little disoriented, that gentleman was quick to help.
Both the bedroom and bathroom were very old. The lighting in the room made it look even older. Mackay Memorial Hospital was just across the street. The ambulance siren was on day and night non-stop, even after mid-night. The stay included a free breakfast buffet at the hotel restaurant. Most of the foods were plain congees with side dishes.
